Children and Families Support Group - Asperger East Anglia Countywide 20.08.2002
To support an existing and successful Saturday morning club that runs in Norwich and enables county wide social opportunities to be developed and supported for children and young people with Asperger Syndrome.

Asperger East Anglia runs five Family Support groups across East Anglia. We currently have groups in North Walsham, Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Thetford and Kings Lynn.

The groups are for families who have children who have been diagnosed or are suspected as having Asperger syndrome. It is aimed at children between the ages of
5 -13 years... Parents / carers and siblings are all encouraged to attend.

The aims of the group are:
 To provide a welcoming, safe and consistent environment with clear boundaries and expectations.

 To raise a better and greater understanding of Asperger syndrome and the needs associated with it.

 To enable children and young people with Asperger syndrome to:

 further develop and improve their communication, sharing and turn taking, co-operative and social skills through a range of art and craft activities, cooking, table top activities and physical activities.

 learn to improve and control their behaviour

 meet like-minded children and young people and develop a greater understanding and acceptance of their condition.

The group as well looks to support the siblings of children with Asperger syndrome, and help them develop:
 a greater understanding and acceptance of Asperger syndrome; and
 participate in activities alongside their brothers and sisters in non-threatening and neutral environment.

For parents and carers the group gives an opportunity to share experiences and be able to share the difficulties or challenges they are experiencing.

The groups run on a fort-nightly basis from 10.00 – 12 noon each session. The groups aim to run all year round.

For more information on the groups you can contact Julie Adcock (children and families support worker) on 01603 620500 or 07917 286914.
